Open-source Layer 1 blockchain combining Scrypt Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, with self-custody wallet software and public network…

Scalable Proof-of-Work Layer 1 combining PoEM consensus, merged mining and a dual-token architecture for EVM-compatible applications and energy-linked payments.
01 · OVERVIEW
Quai Network is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to scale Proof-of-Work through a hierarchy of merged-mined chains. Its Proof-of-Entropy-Minima (PoEM) consensus mechanism measures the intrinsic weight of blocks to coordinate consensus across the network while maintaining an open Proof-of-Work security model.
The network uses a dual-token architecture built around QUAI and Qi. QUAI is the account-based, EVM-compatible asset used for smart contracts, DeFi and general network activity, while Qi uses a UTXO model and is designed as an energy-linked medium of exchange. Users can convert between the two assets through protocol-native mechanisms.
Quai mainnet genesis took place on February 4, 2025, followed by public mining on February 5 and QUAI transfers later that month.
The network subsequently introduced Project SOAP, expanding its mining model to support participation from KawPoW, SHA-256 and Scrypt miners through merged mining and workshares.
In March 2026, the Singularity fork substantially changed QUAI's monetary structure by eliminating approximately 1.67 billion QUAI in future genesis unlocks. Following the change, Quai describes QUAI as having a soft supply cap of approximately 1.4 billion tokens, while ongoing mining emissions and protocol burns continue to influence circulating supply.
