Open-source Layer 1 blockchain combining Scrypt Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, with self-custody wallet software and public network…

Using GPU-mined KAWPOW blocks as a source of public verifiable randomness, Sharecoin (SHC) is a Proof-of-Work Layer 1 built from Bitcoin Core.
Overview
Sharecoin (SHC) is an open-source Layer 1 cryptocurrency launched in July 2026 as a fork of Bitcoin Core. The network replaces Bitcoin’s SHA-256d mining with the GPU-oriented KAWPOW family of Proof-of-Work algorithms while retaining much of Bitcoin Core’s transaction, scripting, wallet, peer-to-peer networking and RPC architecture.
Its distinguishing feature is a public verifiable-randomness beacon derived from data produced during Proof-of-Work mining. Each mined block contains a mix hash generated as part of the KAWPOW computation. Sharecoin’s `getrandombeacon` RPC combines values from already-confirmed blocks to produce randomness that can be independently reproduced and checked from public blockchain data.
The beacon is designed for applications that require an unpredictable future value without depending entirely on a centralized random-number provider. The project demonstrates uses including raffles, random draws, committee or jury selection, oracle rotation, fair queues and delayed-reveal commitments. Results can be recalculated from the same public blockchain inputs after the relevant blocks have been mined.
SHC is the native cryptocurrency of the network and is distributed through mining. The project specifies a maximum supply of 500,000,000 SHC and states that the network launched without a premine, founder allocation or presale.
Sharecoin’s current mainnet has been live since July 28, 2026. The project documents that its early launch period involved several genesis and consensus changes, culminating in a full chain rebuild rather than migration of the previous chain. The current repository identifies this rebuilt network as the active mainnet going forward.
Development is public on GitHub, where the project publishes the Bitcoin Core-derived source, wallet software, beacon specification, use-case demonstrations and a technical whitepaper. A live explorer also provides access to current blocks, transactions, addresses, network difficulty and hashrate.
