Open-source Layer 1 blockchain combining Scrypt Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, with self-custody wallet software and public network…

Proof-of-Work Layer 1 combining a scalable UTXO architecture with native tokens, smart contracts and the NexaPoW mining algorithm.
01 · OVERVIEW
Nexa is a permissionless Proof-of-Work Layer 1 blockchain developed by Bitcoin Unlimited. Built around a highly parallel UTXO architecture, Nexa is designed to support peer-to-peer payments, native fungible and non-fungible tokens, smart contracts and high-throughput applications directly on Layer 1.
The network uses NexaPoW, a Proof-of-Work design that combines SHA-256 hashing with Schnorr-signature operations. Nexa was fair-launched on 21 June 2022 without a premine or VC allocation, with NEXA entering circulation through mining. Its monetary policy follows a Bitcoin-inspired issuance model with a maximum supply of 21 trillion NEXA and periodic reductions in block rewards.
Nexa's development is led by Bitcoin Unlimited, whose work includes the Nexa full node, protocol specifications, developer libraries and ongoing scaling research. The network also supports native tokenization and a programmable scripting environment while retaining the UTXO model used by Bitcoin-family blockchains.
