Sharecoin (SHC)

A PoW that derives a public, verifiable randomness beacon from each block's mix hash.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

About Sharecoin

Sharecoin is a fork of Bitcoin Core that replaces SHA-256d proof-of-work with ProgPoW/KawPow, the GPU-oriented, ASIC-resistant algorithm used by Ravencoin. Everything else (transactions, scripts, wallets, P2P networking, RPC) is unmodified upstream Bitcoin Core. Each mined block includes a mix_hash, an unpredictable value produced as a side effect of the proof-of-work computation. The getrandombeacon RPC method derives verifiable public randomness from already-confirmed blocks' mix hashes, usable by applications that need unpredictable, non-manipulable values, such as lotteries, raffles, NFT reveals, matchmaking systems, or DAO sortition, without relying on a trusted third party or off-chain oracle. It is intended for GPU miners seeking an ASIC-resistant coin to mine, and for developers building applications that need a source of randomness that cannot be predicted or biased by any single party in advance.

  • Proof of Work
  • ProgPoW (KawPow variant)
  • 500,000,000 SHC — 50 SHC per block, halving every 5,000,000 blocks (vs. Bitcoin's 210,000), which geometrically sums to a 500 million total cap.

Being a new project, it may well need some bug fixing in the future than can be implemented as with any other blockchain, as this is based around already secure and functioning networks, this has a solid base in long term security.
