Overview

About Krypton

Krypton (KYP) is an open-source Proof-of-Work Layer 1 cryptocurrency launched on 24 July 2025. The network is derived from the Litecoin codebase but operates as its own blockchain with independent consensus parameters, network infrastructure and native KYP currency.

Krypton uses the Scrypt mining algorithm and targets approximately 60-second blocks. The initial block reward is 14.26940639 KYP and halves every 525,600 blocks, approximately once per year. The resulting emission schedule produces a final supply just below 15 million KYP.

The project launched without a premine, ICO or venture-capital allocation. New KYP enters circulation through public Proof-of-Work mining.

Krypton's current protocol uses a Lightweight Moving Average difficulty-adjustment system that retargets every block. Version 1.6 introduced a shorter difficulty window and a configurable 200-block maximum reorganisation depth designed to limit deep competing-chain reorganisations.

The ecosystem includes desktop node and wallet software for Windows, macOS and Linux, a web wallet and public block explorer. Development is open source under the MIT licence.

Future roadmap items include expanded wallet infrastructure, additional exchange integrations, merchant tooling, cross-chain research and governance features. These should be treated as planned development rather than currently delivered functionality.
