Overview

About CivicNet

CivicNet (CIVIC) is an open-source Layer 1 cryptocurrency designed to keep network participation accessible to ordinary hardware. The network combines CPU-focused Proof of Work with Proof of Stake, allowing both miners and stakers to produce blocks on the same chain.

Proof-of-Work mining uses civiclight v2, a memory-hard algorithm introduced through a July 2026 hard fork to improve ASIC resistance. CivicNet targets 60-second blocks with a 77 CIVIC block reward.

Hybrid Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake became active on mainnet in August 2026. CivicNet’s staking model has no minimum balance or lock-up period, while staking probability uses a square-root weighting model intended to reduce the influence of very large balances.

In September 2026, CivicNet activated the Hybrid Value Layer (HVL), a protocol-level token system that allows users to issue, transfer, mint and burn custom assets directly on the CIVIC ledger without relying on smart contracts. HVL tokens can also be backed by locked CIVIC reserves under rules enforced by consensus.

CIVIC is the native asset of the network. CivicNet targets a total supply cap of approximately 315 million CIVIC and disclosed a 1% development allocation created at block 1.

The project maintains open-source node software, wallets, a block explorer, mining infrastructure and public development releases through GitHub.
