01 · OVERVIEW

About Qubitcoin

Qubitcoin (QTC) is an open-source Layer 1 blockchain launched in October 2024 that combines conventional Proof-of-Work mining with quantum-circuit computation through a system called Quantum Proof of Work, or qPoW.

Rather than relying only on repeated cryptographic hashing, Qubitcoin miners execute parameterized quantum-circuit simulations as part of the mining process. Results from those computations are combined with classical hashes and checked against the network difficulty target before a block can be accepted.

The current implementation uses NVIDIA's cuQuantum and cuStateVec libraries to run quantum-circuit simulations on compatible GPUs. Qubitcoin's implementation also allows alternative solver backends, enabling miners and researchers to experiment with different quantum simulators or computational approaches.

Qubitcoin was developed from the Bitcoin Core codebase but modifies its mining process to incorporate qPoW. SHA-256 remains part of the hashing process, while quantum-circuit outputs become an additional component of block generation. The project describes this approach as a way to connect cryptocurrency mining incentives with research into quantum simulation, algorithms and future quantum hardware.

QTC is the native asset of the Qubitcoin network. The project follows a Bitcoin-inspired monetary model with a maximum supply of 21,000,000 QTC. Its source code, node software and mining implementation are publicly available, while network activity can be independently inspected through the Qubitcoin block explorer.

Qubitcoin remains an experimental blockchain project. Its quantum-computing component currently relies primarily on classical simulation of quantum circuits rather than requiring miners to operate physical quantum computers.
