Overview

About Flux

Flux (FLUX) is a decentralized cloud computing and DePIN ecosystem built around a globally distributed network of independently operated FluxNodes and its native Flux blockchain.

The project launched as ZelCash in January 2018 and rebranded to Flux in 2021 as its focus expanded from cryptocurrency infrastructure into decentralized cloud computing, application hosting and Web3 infrastructure.

Flux underwent a major consensus upgrade in October 2025. Traditional GPU Proof-of-Work mining was replaced by Proof of Useful Work v2 (PoUW v2), also described as Proof of Nodes (PoN). FluxNodes now handle block production and transaction validation, while the target block time was reduced from approximately two minutes to 30 seconds.

FLUX is the native asset of the ecosystem. It is used for network economics, FluxNode collateral, infrastructure payments and ecosystem participation. Following the PoUW v2 upgrade, the protocol uses a maximum supply cap of 560 million FLUX and a scheduled annual emission-reduction model.

The wider Flux ecosystem includes FluxCloud for decentralized application hosting, FluxEdge for compute workloads, FluxAI, FluxDrive, FluxCore, SSP Wallet and other infrastructure services. Applications can be deployed across a distributed network of independently operated machines rather than relying exclusively on centralized cloud providers.

Flux remains actively developed. Its 2026 Flux v9 architecture work focuses on autonomous compute, improved application deployment, network economics and infrastructure that can be provisioned and paid for programmatically.
